Other about Fort de France

Fishing in Fort de France Martinique makes for perfect bone fishing !

Deep-sea fishing expeditions in these waters hunt down tuna, barracuda, dolphinfish, kingfish, and bonito, and the big ones -- white and blue marlins. You can hire boats from the bigger marinas, particularly in Pointe du Bout, Le Marin, and Le François; most hotels arrange these Hemingwayesque trysts but will often charge a premium. If you call several days in advance, they can also put you together with other anglers to keep costs down. The Centre de Peche, a fully loaded Davis 47-foot fishing boat, is like a sportsfisherman's dream. It goes out with a minimum of five anglers for EUR150 per person for a half day, or EUR260 per person for a full day, including lunch. Nonanglers can come for the ride for EUR70 and EUR130, respectively. Captain Yves speaks English fluently and is a fun guy. The West Indies may be a delight to beach-lovers, but it is definitely a piece of paradise for fishermen. You will never forget these outings –and incredibly sized fish- as long as you start your trip well-equipped and in optimal security. Ask around for the ideal spots to catch the precious wahoo, bonito all year round, barracuda and blue marlin during the second semester, spearfish from March to October, mahi-mahi (or dolphin-fish) from November to May, sailfish from June to November, and swordfish if you choose to fish by night. As a general rule, this activity will cost you around 150€/person/day, including complete equipment and often drinks and sandwiches. Certain boats accept fishermen as well as accompanying individuals, who only participate “morally” in the activity. A note for novices: big game fishing is by no means a relaxing outing... for a first taste of the activity, try a half-day trip.
